Join me for an enchanting episode featuring the brilliant Emma Lane, the creative force behind The Range Estates and the beloved Farm in Byron Bay. In this special interview, Emma graciously invited me into her exquisite home, Copperstone, nestled in the picturesque countryside of the Byron hinterland in New South Wales. From the moment I drove up the long driveway, it felt like I had been transported to another world, almost like the serene hills of Tuscany.
Arriving at Copperstone
Copperstone is more than just a home. It is a sanctuary that celebrates slowness, intentional design and harmony with nature. Set on 48 acres of pristine landscape, the estate is a seamless blend of European heritage and an authentically Australian touch.
Our conversation took place in Emma's beautifully curated bedroom, surrounded by her treasured objects and her loyal dog, Ranger, relaxing nearby. The scene was complete with perfect weather, the laughter of her children, and the deep tranquility of Copperstone embracing us.

From advertising to a slower life
Emma grew up in the English countryside with summers in the Canary Islands, studied creative advertising and began her career in marketing. After a decade in Sydney, she relocated to Byron Bay to pursue family life, along with studies in photography, nutrition, yoga and meditation.
In this episode she shares that journey, from her boarding school days to a successful career in advertising, and how it all led her to create extraordinary spaces rooted in sustainability and mindful living. In 2018 she published The Farm Community, a collection of stories, projects and recipes that reflect her move toward simplicity.

Designing with nature
What strikes you most about Emma's work is how the landscape leads. As she puts it, she always tries to incorporate the outside surroundings and nature into her design, whether through colours, scents or textures, because this brings a level of peace and harmony to the space.
That philosophy runs through every project she and her husband Tom create together at The Range Estates, from Copperstone to Highground in the Southern Highlands, and through their belief that thoughtful, sustainable design should nurture both people and the planet.

The beauty of intentional living
If you are looking for a dose of inspiration drawn from the power of family, nature and the beauty of thoughtful design, this conversation is for you. Emma reminds us that beauty is not about doing more, but about choosing what matters and giving it room to breathe.
